And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
– Mark 16:15
As Christians, we have been given a great responsibility, a responsibility that outshines anything in this world. Every child of God has been called to use our lives to serve Him, but, what we need to know is that serving Him does not just mean going to church every Sunday, attending a Bible study, and spending our own personal time with Him. Now, don’t get me wrong, those are all VERY important parts of our walk in Christ, but they are not the only parts. We are also called to be a witness to the world. We are called to go out into all the land, and share the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost and the unbelieving. We are called to be ambassadors for Christ, representing to the world all that it means to follow Jesus. We cannot keep this precious gift of God for ourselves, but we must share it with anyone who would receive it.
We need to remember that we too were once lost, but praise The Lord, we were found! And we were only found because The Lord chose to show us grace by placing someone into our path to share with us the love of Christ. Even if you have been a Christian from birth, there was still someone, at some point, that spoke the Word of God to your parents, or grandparents, or maybe even great great grandparents.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.
– Romans 10:11-15
You see, we need to be obedient to our calling. It is so important for us to not only speak the Gospel among our circle of believing friends, but much more so, we need to share it with the ones who have not had the opportunity to hear it.
There are so many people in this world in search of love, of joy, of acceptance.. and guess what? you and I, we have it, we know the secret to obtaining what their souls have been longing for all along. We can’t choose to keep this precious gift to ourselves, we can’t allow the fear, and the worries of what others will think to stop us from sharing it with the ones who need to hear it.
The Lord desires for EVERY person to kneel before His throne, and to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts. He is not a respecter of persons. Jesus did not just go to the cross for you and I, but so that everyone who would come to follow Him.
For there is no respect of persons with God.
– Romans 2:11
If you ever need a nudge to get out and witness, my advice would be to open the book of Acts. It’s pretty much just one account after the next of bold men sharing the wonderful news of Jesus Christ.
Now then, brothers and sisters, we must never be afraid to speak His name. Fear of what man will think is something we all face at one point or another, but we need to let that go. We need to push those fears aside, and walk in the boldness that Christ has given us. Remember this, when we do not witness, we deny Him, and His Word tells us that when we deny Him, He will deny us.
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
– Matthew 10:32-33
We should never be ashamed to say that we believe in Jesus Christ. Yes, we might get laughed at, mocked, or even, totally rejected, BUT if in all of that, there holds the chance that even just one person would come to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, well then I’d say that it’s all completely worth it!
So, are you ready to get out there, and faithfully get to doing the work that Jesus has given us to do?
Here are 4 very important points we need to remember when sharing the Gospel of Christ:
1. Pray That The Lord Gives You The Words To Speak
I am going to say that this is by far the most important point to remember. As people, we don’t usually have the best insight as to what exactly the other person is thinking or feeling. We don’t know their past, or their current situations. We don’t know what will cause them to be more receptive to what we’re saying, or what will cause them to shut their ears. Only The Lord knows every detail of each person, and only He can speak to the very heart and soul of them. When we witness, we need to remember that it’s not really about our abilities to come up with the perfect words, but it’s actually about our willingness, and obedience in following The Lord’s direction. You see, the weight is not on our shoulders to bring a person to the acceptance of Jesus, we are just not able. It is only our job to speak the truth of The Gospel, and to show that person the love of Christ. We are to plant the seeds, but it is God that will make them bloom!
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
– 1 Corinthians 3:6-7
Sharing the Gospel is not done by our own ability to come up with the perfect selling point, or by our ability to tug on their emotions. Witnessing is looking to The Lord to direct us, to guide us, and to give us the words that the other person is needing to hear. We are only responsible for being obedient to Him, The Lord will do the rest.
2. Rely On Scriptures
This is where knowing the scriptures is so important. We need to be sure when we witness, that we do not share the Gospel according to our own ideas. Our responsibility is to make sure that what we speak is God’s truth. We don’t want to base what we say off of our own reasoning, but instead, we want to make sure that every thing we share is in line with the Word of God.
It’s also very important that we make sure to have His Word clear in our hearts and in our minds so that when we are asked questions, we will be well equipped to answer them.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready to always give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meakness and fear:
– 1 Peter 3:15
We need to look to The Bible for guidance, and direction. His words are powerful, His words are earth shattering, His words can break down every wall that a person has built up. Only His Words have the ability to make the change in a person that brings their heart to a place of true repentance, and acceptance of who Jesus is. We can talk all day long, but our words are not what will have the power. Only God’s Word has the power, and is able to do mighty things.
3. Share Your Testimony
Your story is very important in sharing the Gospel of Christ. Now, like I said before, the real power comes from the Word of God, but there is also a time to let others know about our experiences. The Lord allows us to go through certain things, and to experience certain things in order to really relate to another person. In that moment, they might not be willing to hear scriptures, or to be “preached” to, but they may be more willing to hear your personal testimony of what The Lord has done in your life. And please don’t believe the lie that in order for it to be worthwhile to someone else, you have to have this incredible, miraculous story of how, against all odds, you came to know Jesus.. it’s just not true. Every single child of God has a story worth sharing. The Lord can use any story to speak to the heart of another person. And in all honesty, all of our stories of how we came to know Jesus are miraculous and against all odds.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
– Psalms 103:2
4. Show Christ’s Love
We can say all the right words, and recite every scripture we know, but if we do not let the love of Jesus shine through in our actions, then everything else will mean nothing.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
– 1 Corinthians 13:1-2
When Jesus came to the earth, He set the perfect example for how to witness. He didn’t speak to the crowds from a place of pride and judgement, but He came with humility, with grace, and with love. Yes, they were certainly astonished by His incredible knowledge and wisdom, but I believe that it was the love that He shared that caused them to follow.
Jesus tells us:
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
– John 13:34-35
You see, the world will know that we are followers of Christ by the love that we show to others. Our words and our works will all be for not, if we do not have His love within us. Sharing the Gospel from a place of self-righteousness or superiority will have no effect. We must come from a place of humility, of meekness, of kindness, and of grace. When we treat others in these ways, that is when they will be willing to hear what we have to say.
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
– Matthew 9:37
The harvest is plenty! The fields are white! The world is just waiting to have the beautiful hope of Jesus Christ spoken to them. We need to get off of our church pews, and into the fields! We need to stop wasting time.. We do not know the day or the hour that our Lord will return, but until then, it is our duty to speak the Gospel to as many as we can. We have to stop putting it off until we have grown stronger in our walk with Christ, until we have built up enough courage, or until we know The Bible from start to finish.. There won’t ever be a better time than now! So, let’s get out there, brothers and sisters, and do the work of our Lord!
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
– John 4:35
Remember, spreading the Gospel is one of the most important jobs that we, as Christians, have. When we keep the beautiful gift of Jesus to ourselves, we not only disobey our Lord, but we also withhold this gift from those who are needing to hear of it. My friends, we can’t let that be so. The Lord has been so kind to us in making a way for us to know Him.. Let’s stop focusing only on ourselves, and instead, let’s remember that this world is need of Christ, and it is our job to be obedient in sharing His beautiful Gospel with all that would listen.
Let go of the fear, the worry, and everything else that may be holding you back.. The Lord is asking of His children, right now, to take that leap of faith, to trust in Him, and to boldly go out, and spread the wonderful news of Jesus Christ.
Do you struggle with witnessing to others, or is it something that you are very passionate about?
Do you have any advice on spreading the Gospel of Christ?
